Tips on How to Prepare for Competition Night

Note: These are only Guidelines. Competition may vary dramatically from Guidelines, because this is an event of passion and drama.

The Philly Beer Geek Finals Competition 2008 will have 2 rounds:
Round 1 – (max – 1 hour)

  1. Introduction of Illustrious Panel of Judges
  2. Introduce the 12 Competitors and Sponsors
    1. Competitors must have a Philly Beer Philosophy – and be able to get it across in 30 seconds or less as they are introduced – They can make a statement, do backflips, break dance, rap a song…whatever it takes to show they LOVE PHILLY BEER!
  3. Trivia rounds – Competitors will "get plastered" with a sticker on their back for each correct answer.
    1. Quick and Easy Round – A or B questions or True/False questions
    2. Quick Round II – Philly Beer or Wild and Crazy Q & A's
  4. Judges Imagination – free form questions – related to Philly beer or the love of beer diversity in Philadelphia.
  5. Stump the Chumps – Competitors get to ask a question of whichever judge they choose – judge may consult one other judge. Question will be evaluated for accuracy and whether it is actually a good question by the other judges.
  6. Judges recess – while we give away door prizes.
  7. Announce the 3 Finalists

Round 2 – (max – 45 minutes)
Finalists will be challenged with the following:

  1. Trivia Second Round - Judges may ask trivia questions, have Finalists act out a situation, sing a jingle, etc. The sky's the limit! Open forum for judges!
  2. Finalists describe their Date with a Philly Beer - What Philly Beer they would choose, what they would do, how it would turn out, would they do it again? They may be as dramatic or funny as they like.
  3. Ultimate Classic Beer Joke - Points for applause and cheering – Bring your team and fan club!
  4. Name the Philly Beer Taste Test - All 3 contestants taste 2 beers (Beer A and Beer B), describe them, and try to pinpoint the beer style, what brewery or brewpub it came from and the name of the beer. Even if they don't get it, points are gathered for creativity, believability, and drinkability. Can the Finalists convince the judges they are right?
  5. One last challenge for the 3 contestants. Contestant chooses the judge they want the challenge from.
  6. Judges recess to choose winner. Decision of the judges is final.
  7. Awarding of $1,000 in prizes to Philly Beer Geek 2008
